Upcoming Applied Sport Psychology Continuing Education Opportunity in Abbotsford, BC


The BC region of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA) will be hosting a 1-day workshop consisting of three sessions on Saturday May 5th, 2018, at the University of the Fraser Valley Abbotsford campus. The day will run from 8:30 am until 5 pm. Participants will take part in three sessions let by experts in the field of sport psychology intermixed by breaks for networking opportunities.

Session 1: Supporting More Than Performance: Exploring best practice in supporting athletes’ well-being

Facilitator(s): Ms. Leanne Fielding, MA, CCC, MPC; Dr. Sharleen Hoar, MPC.

This experiential session will utilize attendees’ expertise to illuminate best practice for assisting athletes’ management of challenging performance scenarios. Case studies, based on real-world high performance competitive experiences, will be examined through both small and large group discussions. Participants will gain an increased awareness of the facets of mental performance and mental wellness that impact high performance sport performers as well as engage in creative problem solving to expand personal practice.

Session 2: Supervision: Perspectives from the panel

Panelists: Dr. Laura Farres, MPC; Ms. Sarah Kiengersky, MPC; Mr. Geoff Hackett; Mr. Zoran Stojkovic

A combined supervisor and supervisee panel provides a rich opportunity to explore some of the logistics, dynamics, and challenges of supervision within the context of Mental Performance Consulting. Through a question and answer format, the panel will share knowledge and experience for student CSPA members looking to identify potential supervisors and professional members who may be looking to expand their practice and provide student supervision.
