Get to know your Managing Council: Kennedy (Goss) Hixon

'Get to know your Managing Council' is a new monthly series to highlight the individuals that make up our managing council here at the CSPA, so our members can get to know them and the work they do in our communities.

Kennedy's Roles:

  • Certified Mental Performance Consultant® and Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State.

We caught up with Kennedy to find out more about her and the work she does, here's what we learned ...

Tell us about yourself.

I currently live in New York City, where I work at a private practice dedicated to supporting high achievers. I’m thrilled to step into my new role as the Lead of Communications and Marketing, bringing creativity and strategic direction to the team. Before, I had the honor of representing Team Canada at the 2016 Olympic Games, earning a bronze medal in the 4x200 freestyle relay.

Tell us about the work you do.

I currently work in a private practice focused on supporting high achievers, where I provide care for clients facing a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and OCD. By utilizing a cognitive-behavioral approach, I cultivate compassionate, empathic, and meaningful therapeutic relationships that promote long-lasting growth and well-being.

Tell us about your position/work on the Managing Council.

After three years of volunteering in social media management, I’m excited to step into the role of Lead of Communications and Marketing. In this position, I oversee email communications, social media content, and blog posts, working collaboratively with Chante Weir and our volunteers.

Why is your work meaningful to you?

My work is meaningful because it allows me to witness and support personal growth. In the counseling space, I help individuals navigate emotional struggles, explore purpose, and heal from life’s challenges. As a former athleteI understand the unique struggles that come with high-performance environments. I just hope I can be a supportive and helpful factor in someone's life and career.

What is one topic you are most passionate about in your work?

Creating positive and lasting change in the lives of the people I work with is incredibly meaningful to me. I strive to empower individuals to discover their inner strength and cultivate the support they need throughout their journey toward growth and healing.

What do you do for fun?

I love to cook and bake, currently trying to perfect my sourdough. I love watching sports, playing with my puppy, Indy, and spending time with friends and family.
