Biography: Dr. Kimberley Amirault-Ryan has worked in professional sport since 2001 becoming the first and only woman to be the Performance Consultant with the New York Rangers, New York Knicks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Edmonton Oilers.

She has worked at 5 Olympic Games with the Gold Medal winning teams of the Women's Hockey Team, Cross Country Ski Team, and Speedskating Team. The Canadian Olympic Committee appointed her as the Lead of Sport Psychology for the entire Olympic team for the 2010 Vancouver, 2012 London and 2014 Sochi Olympics.

For her groundbreaking work she has received awards such as the Globe and Mail's Top Power 50 List and WXN Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women. Companies worldwide, including Fortune 500 companies VISA, General Mills and Royal Dutch Shell have hired her to help motivate them to lead under pressure and achieve sustained high performance.

Matthew has been on Canada Games IST's, Para-Pan-Am performance staff, and involved in the preparation and execution of periodized mental training programs embedded within the entirety of an athlete's season. This variety has allowed him to reach populations not only for bettering problem-solving but performing better in life. Matthew has master's degrees in education and Sport & Exercise Psychology and doctoral-level work in Clinical and Research Psychology (ABD). He is currently doing his Ph.D. in Sport Psychology, focusing on personality and motivation across the lifespan. Biography: Susan has more than two decades of experience counselling young adults, youth and children through a myriad of psychological challenges, especially anxiety, burnout/depression, trauma and life transitions. Susan works with athletes of all ages and levels, from children in community sports to elite athletes preparing for the Olympic Games. During the Beijing-London Olympic quadrennial Susan worked with Canadian athletes competing in sprints, long jump and hurdles, and for the London-Rio Olympic quadrennial she worked with the Canada Senior Women's Basketball team. Susan herself was a multi-sport athlete competing regionally in volleyball, netball, field hockey and athletics.

Biography: Perri Ford is a Mental Performance Consultant with the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA). She holds an MA in Sport Psychology and a BSci in Exercise Science. Perri is the owner of Bell Lap Mental Performance Coaching. She works with individual athletes competing in a variety of sports (equestrian, gymnastics, volleyball, hockey, track and field, rowing, etc.), and also runs customized workshops for corporate groups, athletes/parents in youth sport, and elite teams.

In addition to her work with private clients, Perri is also passionate about advocating for women and girls in sport. Her academic research and personal journey have led to the development of a program that focuses on the diverse challenges and celebrations that come with being a female athlete. She works with the UofC Dinos development camps and is a mentor for the GOAL (Girls Only Athlete & Leadership) program through Winsport.
Perri draws on years of personal experience at the elite level in track and field, but also believes in the power of her clients' unique stories and experiences. Biography: Joshua Hoetmer has been working with athletes since completing an undergrad at the University of Lethbridge. During that time, he was a member of the Emotion and Performance Lab and examined stress and coping in athletes transitioning into a high school sport academy. While completing a Masters in Counselling Psychology, Joshua continued to work with athletes as the Program Facilitator/Mental Performance Consultant for the Alberta Sport Development Centre SW. Eventually, Joshua was promoted to the Centre Coordinator role, overseeing centre operations while continuing to deliver Mental Performance Consulting services to athletes involved with the ASDC SW. 

Aside from his work with the Alberta Sport Development Centre SW, Joshua provides private consulting services to athletes and a variety of organizations. Examples include the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball, Team Alberta - Canada Winter Games, Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta, and University of Lethbridge Women's Hockey.

David Paskevich, PhD

Biography: Associate Dean (Academic), Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Calgary, and holds a PhD in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo. Interests center upon the integration of the science-practitioner model, bringing the science of sport psychology into practical/applied settings. His research combines a variety of areas within the realm of sport (using both quantitative & qualitative methodology) and examines important theoretical and practical questions related to athletes, coaches, and officials (e.g., mental toughness, stress, coping and emotion, & group dynamics).
 
Research goals are to examine and understand the psychological preparation of athletes and coaches, and their ability to deal or cope with stressors experienced during practice & competition. The aim of this research is to understand how the athletes & coaches perceive the contribution of their various psychological skills, identifiable stressors, and coping effectiveness related to their actual performance. He has worked with Canadian athletes at numerous Olympic Games, (i.e., 2002; 2006; 2008; 2010; 2014, & 2018). He is currently an MPC for Speed Skating Canada and the Canadian Water Ski Team. Dave has also worked with professionals (CFL, NHL, & NLL) and other high-performance athletes in a variety of sports.

She completed her MA from the University of Alberta in 2009 and has led an integrated mental training program within Athletics at the University of Alberta for the last 6 years. Klaudia has experience providing one-on-one consultations, preparing and presenting tailored team workshops (topics include building culture, handling pressure, resilience, cultivating confidence, self-compassion, activation control, performance routines). In her current role as Mental Wellness Coordinator, she oversees the Well to Win mental health program and also provides mentorship to a group of graduate sport psychology students who assist all the Golden Bears & Pandas teams in the area of performance psychology. Biography: Kara is a mental performance consultant and also a certified exercise physiologist with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP). A former competitive athlete in wrestling, kayaking, and several other sports, Kara now offers mental skills and biofeedback training for performance enhancement in sport, business, and the performing arts.

Sports in which Kara has worked include hockey, Olympic freestyle wrestling, sprint kayaking, ringette, squash, soccer, equestrian, synchronized swimming, and Olympic lifting, and her clients have ranged from the youth provincial to the World Cup and Olympic levels.

Overall, Kara’s aim is to help her clients gain an edge by improving their self-awareness and facilitating the improvement of skills such as focus, emotion management (e.g., performance anxiety), effective debriefing, motivation, and dealing with setbacks. Penny Werther, PhD

Mental Performance Consultant

Biography: Penny Werthner, PhD, has been consulting with athletes and coaches since 1985, working within the sports of Athletics, Canoe/Kayak, Rowing, Diving, Women’s Water Polo, Freestyle Ski, Speed Skating, Curling, Women’s Hockey, and Women’s Soccer over the span of many World Championships and 13 summer and winter Olympic Games (from 1988 winter Olympic Games in Calgary to the 2016 summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeong Chang).

Werthner is a former Olympic athlete in Athletics (representing Canada at the 1976 Summer Olympics in the 1,500m and the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, if Canada had not boycotted the Games). She won bronze medals in the 800m at the 1971 Pan American Games and 1979 Pan American Games, and the 1500m at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. She was a member of Canada’s national Athletics team from 1970-1980. 

Werthner is also currently the Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. Her research is in the area of lifelong learning, particularly in the areas of high-performance coaches, leadership, women, and sport, and the use of heart rate variability biofeedback and neurofeedback for optimal performance.
